News: The RCGP Introductory Certificate in Sexual Health: An important new education opportunity for practitioners in general practice
This e-module has been developed by the RCGP Sex, Drugs and HIV Task Group and the Medical Foundation for AIDS & Sexual Health (MedFASH) as the first stage of the RCGP Introductory Certificate in Sexual Health (ICSH).
This is a course for generalist clinicians already working in general practice which provides a basic grounding in sexual health. The e-module is also valuable as a stand-alone learning resource or as a refresher course, and is equivalent to two hours CPD.
To obtain the full ICSH, you will need to attend an RCGP accredited face-to-face training day, equivalent to six hours continuing professional development (CPD) after completing this module.
The date of the next training day is TBC.
The RCGP ICSH has been developed in partnership with the following organisations and its content is approved by them pending full endorsement:
- British Association for Sexual Health & HIV (BASHH);
- British HIV Association (BHIVA);
- Department of Health;
- Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH);

The winners of the second Children and Young People's Services Awards were announced on 22 November 2007, at the Hurlingham Club in west London - and SHOC's R Project won not just one but two of the awards.
Sponsored by the Children's Workforce Development Council, the event celebrated the unsung heroes of the sector, acknowledging achievement in categories that reflect the five Every Child Matters outcomes, from growing up healthy to staying safe.
The ceremony showcased some of the finest practice and brought together the most inspiring practitioners from across the range of services aimed at the young.
SHOC's R Project won two awards:
It’s fun, entertaining and unlike any sexual health film you have seen. 'Blue Movie – The Adventures of a Blueberry Condom' is a world away from the dull facts of lifestyle films that many young people have yawned their way through.
The film was written and made by young people and is the centrepiece of the innovative R Project, designed to boost awareness of sexual health issues among young people in the NW10 area of Brent.
“Brilliant” – that is the word many of our young judges used to sum up the work of the R Project in Brent, and it’s why the sexual health initiative is a double award winner, scooping first prize in both the stay safe and being healthy categories.
The R Project was set up by SHOC (Sexual Health On Call), which runs a range of sexual health services in the London borough. The scheme has encouraged hundreds more young people to get tested for sexually transmitted infections by holding workshops in schools and youth settings and by creating a colourful animated film made by young people.
The Sperm Busters is the sequel to The Blue Movie...Adventures of a Blueberry Condom. Follow the adventures of a young woman as she travels through her own reproductive system, learning about sex, contraception, relationships and self-esteem. Click here to place an order for a DVD.
