SHOC has a well established condom (and pregnancy testing) distribution scheme in the general practices of Brent. It has maintained the scheme through the training and support of health practitioners, both GPs and practice nurses. (90%) 66 general practices are involved in the scheme.

Background information

In 2007 SHOC distributed over 450000 condoms in over 22000 recorded interventions. This equates to over 7600 distributed per week through general practice and primary care sites with the number of total contacts/interventions ranging from 2800-6000 interventions over a month.

As part of our on-going review and audit of general practices we undertook an analysis of the results from the Sexual Health and Contraceptive Services Questionnaire. We compiled a report based on the analysis, working with Brent Primary Care Trust with support from the Organon Strategic Healthcare Development Team.
